I am ashamed of this article. The author...

I am ashamed of this article. The author obviously does not know a thing
of what classifies "Gatka" and what classifies "Shaster vidya".

I have learnt Gatka in england before, and now I learn Shaster Vidya. By
a man who wears a damalla yes, that would be natural since he is a nihang
singh (for which I have the utmost respect) but he has no white beard, he
speaks english as he is from England, but with the great Kirpa of our Guru
Ji, he was able to go to india and train/learn shaster vidya for 11 years.

His name is Nidar Singh, and if you go to his classes you would be amazed.
Leave all superstitions and prejudices at the door and prepare to learn
how to be a sikh and firstly seva rakhshia.

We are revamping a local Sikh newsletter...

-Lakhvir Singh, Kenya

Satsriakalji.

We are revamping a local Sikh newsletter in Kenya and seek to use selected published articles on your site in our newsletter for which we seek you kind permission. We lack good writers in Kenya and the few we have are either too busy or have yet to be approached.

We would like to, however, broaden our approach and publish articles fro contributers outside of Kenya. We will also contribute articles to your website as we gather writings of repute and matter.

Looking forward to hearing from you at the earliest.

Kindest regards.

I loved the article Bird Images...

-KP Singh

I loved the article Bird Images in Guru Nanak's Hymns by Man Mohan Singh. Rich in imagery and symbolism, Guru Nanak affirmed the place of all creatures great and small in God's Creation. Guru beautifully recognized also the struggle for survival in Nature. Sikh scripture refer to Nature as the "Resting Place and Crown of God."

We are reminded in our scriptures, doctrine, and practice about the sanctity of all Life, environment, all faith traditions, diverse cultures, and all people. "God (One Immaculate Supreme Reality) created "Light in the Beginning" and then "fashioned all living beings by His Might and Command."

Mr. Man Mohan singh honors the very essence of Sikh spirituality and thought: UNITY, UNIVERSALITY, DIGNITY, SANCTITY of all Life and Creation in a beautifully presented article. Nature has been and continues to be a subject of immense interest to many. This fascination transcends all people and cultures. The author pays a special tribute to the exhalted poetry and Divine Wisdom of Guru Nanak.

Articles that discuss contemporary issues help to dispel the continued doubts about the Sikh faith as a distinct spiritual Light, and strengthen the very foundation of the faith as an "enlightened revelation" for all mankind.

Prayers and blessings,

KP Singh

I recently bought a very cute book...

-Regina Abalso

I recently bought a very cute book (The Butterfly) at Amazon.com by that twelve-year-old Sikh author Jay Singh. I guess the reason I picked it up was because of the interview where his parents said he modeled the protagonist on the first (or one of them anyway) Guru, who was apparently very inquisitive and iconoclastic. I guess my question is this: Is he allowed to call the protagonist, “The Brave Little Guru Nanak”? I mean, is there anything wrong with doing that? I’m trying to get some opinions from as many Sikhs as I can as I’m doing a book report.

Also, I don’t want to sound sceptical, but I don’t really think a boy wrote that book. The ideas and philosophies are of someone who has lived! At least passed 12! Is it possible that his parents might have helped him just a bit or maybe even more than a bit. And I have another unrelated question: Is there a significant difference between Sikhism and Islam? And if so, what are they? I thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my questions.

Kind Regards,
Regina Abalso

Editor-- The use of the phrase “The Brave Little Guru Nanak” should be acceptable. It only proves that when Guru Nanak was a young boy he had the courage and conviction to question empty rituals and superstitions.

We cannot comment on whether or in what capacity was Jay helped in writing the book. It not unknown to see young prodigies in every field of human endeavor. Jay might be another prodigy in the making.
