A Providential Opportunity
K.P. Singh
Dr. Manmohan Singh has a providential opportunity to go far beyond
the apology and immeasurably contribute to rebuilding the trust of
the minority communities by assuring their right to equal justice
guaranteed by the constitution.
He may begin by taking immediate steps in assuring the Sikhs and
the world community that there would not be further delays in
delivering long-denied justice to the thousands of victims of
genocide and organized pogroms in November 1984. The Sikhs, all
Indians, and the world community knows that the 1984 mindless
tragedy took place before Dr. Manmohan Singh's rise to power, but
the issue has resurfaced under his watch and therefore he has the
moral and constitutional responsibility, if not the authority, to
allow the legal proceedings against the guilty to go forward
without further political roadblocks and unconscionable excuses. We
offer our prayers for those who have experienced such horrendous
losses and lived through such torturous darkness and an unimagined
nightmare of the last 21 years. We join countless millions of every
faith tradition and pray for their healing.
Dr. Manmohan Singh also has the moral responsibility and great
opportunity to exercise his constitutional authority to restore all
surviving historic and sacred documents to the Sikhs that were
plundered/destroyed at the Sikh Reference Library during 1984
Operation Blue Star. Some are rumored to have survived and are under
military custody at some unknown location. Those sacred and literary
treasures do not just belong to the Sikhs but are the
spiritual, cultural, and literary heritage all mankind.
Dr. Manmohan Singh is a man of great honor and integrity (see
attached article). We pray that may Sutguru continue to guide his
brilliant mind, enlightened spirit, and uncommon wisdom for the
good of India and the world community. May India set a new course
for the protection and preservation of human and sacred rights of
all its citizens. May the nightmare of police brutality and past
campaigns to terrorize entire communities end in this land of great
spiritual foundation, breathtaking cultural and natural beauty, and
awesome blessings.
May the Indian leaders once again capture the moral high ground as
the champions of equality, justice, and dignity of all people and
cultures that grace and enrich India. I pray that Dr. Singh's moral
fiber, faith, and personal strengths may usher a new dawn in
India's tryst with destiny. May he leave behind a lasting legacy that: the true destiny of India is the cause of her people.
May God bless Dr. Manmohan Singh and keep him safe.
