Mind, Body, Spirit and Soul
John W. Cargile
“I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end” Revelations 21:6
How many times have you heard the phrase, “the whole is the sum of its parts”? It’s not a phrase you hear in casual conversation.
What does that mean to you?
A government is the sum of its individual states, a Church is the sum of its individual members, a business is the sum of its workers; most importantly, God is the sum of mind, body, spirit and soul – you and I.
In this dissertation, I will be writing about how Holistic Health i.e. Mind, Body and Spirit are all One, and how we experience the Eternal Now in Holistic terms. Holistic Health has been limited mostly to alternative medicine such as the use of natural herbs and medicines for the well being of our bodies. These writings include and go beyond the body to God-Mind, or Universal Mind and how to use our God-given life in practical ways to keep it healthy.
While visiting my chiropractor recently, I saw a painting on his wall that demonstrated a part of Holistic Health. The painting had blue sky and clouds pointing to Heaven and underneath it read: “The One that gives you life, is the One that heals your life. There’s no other way.”
As a metaphysician, I have no interest in truth as an abstract theory, but only as it is proved a practical way of life.
There are many books and articles on the market that talk about Mind-Body-Spirit. Some people call it New Thought/New Age, but I have found that all the new writings concerning Mind-Body-Spirit-Soul is actually ancient wisdom that has evolved over the course of time when Man/Woman first began using his/her mind, their God-Mind, their Universal Mind.
The Scriptures give spirit, soul and body as constituting all of man. Spirit is I AM, the same character as Divine Mind, or God.
Soul is man’s consciousness developed out of Spirit. Soul is both conscious and subconscious. Body is the form of expression of both Spirit and Soul.
What you will read can be life changing.
What you will be hearing from me is how to practice the connection all of us have to our God-Mind through prayer and meditation. Prayer and meditation are two different aspects of connecting with the God within you. Prayer is how we ask for God’s advice or help, and meditation is how we receive it.
Questions about “Who am I,” and “Why am I here on this earth,” will be subjects of many columns I write. These are questions I grappled with as a student at Samford University where I graduated with majors in religion and philosophy. For the past 16 years, I have studied in the field of metaphysics. Sounds like a big important discipline, but it really is not. Simply stated, metaphysics is meta (Greek word for beyond); therefore, metaphysics is beyond physics pointing to the First Cause of all that is-- God, I AM, Universal Mind. Pray this prayer with me:
The light of God surrounds me;
The love of God enfolds me;
The power of God protects me;
The presence of God watches over me;
Where I am, God is!
