A moment of compassion
- Prof. Pritam Singh Grewal
Nanak, the bard of True Lord,
beheld the brutal butchery
wreaked by Babar’s band
that dashed from Kabul
to sack and seize Hindu land
The dead and dying lay around
Bhai Lalo’s town Eminabad
innocent kids, women and men
bereft of right to life and honor
and ignored by the Lodi reign
Nanak, the minstrel of God,
bemoaned their sad plight:
O Creator, you are of all!
If the mighty with mighty fight
no anguish will I feel
But if a fierce tiger mauls the herd
the keeper is to blame
See the carnage in Babar’s trail!
Don’t you feel the pain, O God,
to hear the victims wail?
This moment of compassion
bore the concept of Kirpan,
a power to shield the weak
to fight all unfair might
and guard every human right
