Meditation: The Final Freedom
Sukhvir Singh
There are a large number of organized religions and other beliefs (including atheist) that every person identifies with. If you go out and try to find a single un-identified person, you will return back with none. It is almost impossible to find people who may not follow a particular set of values. Even “wise people” give reference to their history and quote their own masters. We are a puppet in the hands of the past, never ready to get in tune with the present. Our minds are conditioned, and we find it extremely difficult to experience beyond this conditioning. Those who can go beyond the mind or beyond their past experiences are called enlightened people.
An enlightened person has no identification. Their values are universal and in tune with the timeless state of existence. This timeless state of existence can be given any name like Akal Purukh, God, Raam, Rahim, Hari, and Parmaatma etc. But these are just the names pointing to the same ultimate truth. It is useless to worship any name unless it becomes your own experience.
Through enlightenment a revolution is born, the foundations of which lie on compassion for the fellow human. Through enlightenment one experiences a blissful, timeless, and deathless state of being. Organized religions and the clergy have always looked upon such people with disdain. It is no wonder that Gautam Buddha was attacked by Brahmin pandits, Jesus was hanged by Jews, Mansoor was killed by Muslims, Socrates was killed by Greeks etc. Organized religions are not very different from politics, and each strives hard to gain more converts. When an enlightened being leaves the body a dogma is started in his name. His views are reshaped, and his values are given a new meaning to strengthen the organization.
Nanak, Buddha, Mahavira, Gobind Singh, Kabir, Muhammad, and Jesus were enlightened beings. They belong to this universe rather than any organization, religion or region. With each of them collective unconsciousness of humanity took an upward jump. Each enlightenment is like an explosion sending positive waves all over the existence.
Religion is an individual phenomenon and nothing other than inner science. Science can be divided into two parts – outer and inner science. Until now outer science has dominated our existence. Now is the time to replace the word religion with Inner-Science and all the worship places be renamed to ‘Inner-Science Centers’ or ‘Meditation Centers’. Meditation is the device to explore this Inner-Science. There are more than a hundred different types of meditations invented by enlightened people. There are two category of meditations -- Active Meditation and Passive Meditation. Active Meditations go on activating body-mind to the peak when it gets tired and gets ready to settle, while passive meditation helps the mind to settle from the very beginning
The purpose of meditation is to clean the traffic of mind and touch the experience of no-mind. No-Mind is a state of mind when there is emptiness all around and you are as pure as if you were born just at that moment and innocent like a child and aware of everything around you. In such a state you are no more a separate entity but an awareness which knows no bounds and which is one with One and all the stars and whole of the existence is included in you. You are flying all around and all above and you and God are no longer two and all duality gets merged in One and all your actions and all your words become the action and voice of Existence or God and humanity and its existence gets blessed with you.
One has to continue with meditation and there is no other way. Different types of meditations suit different types of people. You must select which one works better for you. Since human mind wanders it is good to start with some active meditation and preferable that you start by attending a meditation camp. Meditation has its own unique music that creates a meditative environment. In future articles, I can describe some meditations in details. Fortunate and courageous are the people who started exploring the inner world and who started looking inwards without expecting anything from others.
