Corruption and fraud on the rise in Punjab

Who would believe those aspiring promises from the chief minister of Punjab Captain Amrinder Singh when he came to New York in 2002. The chief minister said a nonresident Indian (NRI) office would be opened in the state: “We are also planning to set up a special fast track court to settle cases pertaining to NRIs. For those investing in real estate, we will set up exclusive NRI colonies in the state. “

My father who is a resident of New Jersey, USA has been seeking justice in the case of encroachment and fraud since more than 6 months . He has been seeking damages worth Rs 2.5 crores from the sales tax office in Ludhiana that issued fraudulent sales tax figures. He has filed two criminal complaints regarding encroachment of his factory assets..

In spite of all this and findings by District Attorney few months back, there is no progress made in this case so far. It is very clear that few people in Punjab police and sales tax office are giving shelter to the criminals who have taken over the factory assets. Hence, in spite of factual findings By the district attorney and SSP Mr. Narinder Singh of Ludhiana, no FIR has been registered by the Punjab Police. According to SSP Narinder Singh, R K Jaiswal (SP HQ, Ludhiana) was assigned this case but no action was ever initiated other than prolonging the case unnecessarily. Recently, Mr. Ramesh Kumar was also threatened by a officer in Punjab Police to not pursue this case any further.

Before seeking NRI investments in Punjab, chief minister Capt. Amrinder Singh should make sure that proper law and order is established in the State for these matters, which can only be proved, at least in this case, when the culprits are behind bars and the corrupt Government officers are punished. I would strongly suggest our NRI community here in USA to stop investing in Punjab till each and every case like this is resolved immediately.

Yours faithfully,
