Poems : Saint Soldier

jetty Singh

i don’t approve or support Capital punishment, violent retribution or waging wars. You cannot justify taking another human’s life or waging a war but when all other peaceful, corrective means fail, then stronger measures are justified. However, century old religious ‘Grudges’, commercial interests or any other prejudices must not be allowed to play any role, before undertaking these measures. Civilians must be protected and no innocent ever tainted, or ‘eliminated’, for that matter. But one cannot and should not submit to violent and criminal blackmail of terror by individuals, organisations or states.

Human life is sacred. Killing people, any people, is no solution and is an act of brutality. But you cannot solve the problem by ignoring or by keeping your eyes shut, either. You got to take strong, lasting, defensive measures so that humanity at large can live in peaceful and secure environments, and not at the mercy and whims of a small minority of fanatical, unethical, mad terrorists, violent murderers or rapists.

When anything important happens anywhere in the world, i am naturally concerned and affected, like rest of us, but if ‘it’ hits me hard enough, my heart works overtime and sometime reacts rather strongly. One such occasion was last presidential elections in America.

i didn’t like 'all pervading intellectuals' and 'the mighty media’ running down and taking Mickey out of presidential candidate George W Bush jr. Diatribe of childish questions, to test history and geographical 'knowledge' of a presidential candidate, seemed to be of more importance to them than anything else. To me, heart and heart alone, mattered. If anybody put ten questions to these ‘high & mighty’ or to me for that matter, half of the questions will remain unanswered or will be wrong. Anyway, i heard his speech on foreign affairs on television and was bowled over by his sincere, straightforward, honest and down to earth attitude.

i like people who don’t mince their words (especially the ones in power) and talk straight, and from their heart. The straightforwardness and honesty shone through his eyes. In any case, i have and will always fight for the underdog.

These poems came out of my system during that Electoral Tempest in that sequence and order: Saint Soldier (17.11.99), Millennium, Absolute Power, Sunshine (19.09.2000), Al Bore (23.11.2000), Media Pundits (8.12.2000), Rules & Principles (13.12.2000).

i want to share my feelings of that time with my friends.

SAINT SOLDIER

All humans are born equal
Must understand
There is
A
RULER
And
A
RULE of LAW
Governing every thing
Whole of Creation

Entire Cosmos Grand

Disciplines   Regulations
Divine Laws
Guide ye to Harmonised Life
Without any flaws
Tribulations
or
Spite

If no discipline in
Sleeping   Eating
Yer body will suffer
Takes a sound Beating

No discipline in yer thoughts
In yer mind
There ‘ill be mental chaos
Debased actions
Lasting decline

No discipline on the roads
People will die in traffic chaos
By the droves
No discipline in yer daily lives
Eternal loss
Miserable strife

No discipline in Administration
Poor   Mighty   Powerful Blighty
Diverging countries Divergent Nations
Will slide into
Eternal rot
Permanent degradation

Power to rule
Vested   or    Elected
Is Sacred   Naught to drool
Should never be abused
Misused or induced
Like in some countries
Or most
Bought and sold like
Compost
To reap a bumper harvest
Ministerial Appointments
Honours   Honorariums
Chairmanship of the Boards

Person entrusted with
Power Position
A Metaphor   Mentally divorce
Distance himself From The Power itself
For ‘powerful’ reasons
Naught listen to Machiavellian counselling
Manipulations
Obey her Conscience
His heart’s dictation
Consider himself   A temporary custodian
A caretaker
Servant of her Nation

A sensitive
Compassionate
Kind Heart
Razor sharp Intelligence
Just   Fearless Mind
Lofty Resolutions
Steel like Resolve Steel like Determination
Living in spirit
Humbly at the feet of
THE MASTER
With an obsession
For
A Peaceful World Progression
Eveready to fight
Bigotry Genocide
Tyranny   Oppression
And
human ‘Hyenas’ Absurd

Any where in
OUR WORLD

Silent Messiah
Law Keeper   Upholder
Living now For ever
Like a true
SAINT SOLDIER

MILLENNIUM

i’ve been waiting for
A new era
All through my life
When
Self generated suffering ends
The longest
Darkest night
Like
Ego crashing cymbals
Will down
Crusading Might
When
Power logged pygmies
Are
Made to end the fright
When
1st World 2nd World 3rd World
Will end
The trade in slight
No
Terminal calamities
No more
Left or Right
Breathing
Air of dignity
Will live
Own way of life
No more
Racial malice
No
East West Divide
No
North South Bickering
End them
Out of sight
Where
Everyone is equal
In
Everybody’s’ eye
i have been waiting for
This millennium
All through
my life

i hope for
Goodness sakes
This Time
i am right

ABSOLUTE POWER

Power corrupts resolutely
Absolute power corrupts absolutely
Political demagogues
Religious charlatans
Pursue it for years
Craving for it to sprout
Feeling ecstatic euphoric
Rave rent and flout
It will stay with them forever
The Terror
They shout
But   A day will come
It will fly away like a cloud

Intellectual power corrupts even more
Concentrated in media’s lap
Turns into a dangerous property
A unilateral monopoly
A one sided trap

Projecting yerself
A paragon of mores
On the big screen
On the idiot box
Inebriated cunning fox
Presenting others as
Nitwits half witted bores

Freedom of expression
Our birthright
An absolute necessity
Freedom of the press
Essential for veracity
But if Pen power is
Abused    Misused
Bought and Sold
Like a commodity
Then Higher Concept
Freedom of the press
Freedom of expression
Becomes a bogus charade
Inane verbosity

A mere pomposity

SUNSHINE

Candle burns itself
But gives away light
Blind are compensated
In
Touch   Hearing
Or
Lore
‘Cos they have no sight

Sun will keep them warm
Give no Light
In their sight
For sure

But
If you are mentally blind
Darkness overpowers
The mind
There is no cure
Save
Blessings Divine
‘Cos there is no flow
Of
Kindness   Compassion
Of
MASTER’S GLOW

But
You are what you know
For Sure
You will grow
Knowledge will make you wiser

Disperse it
Let it Flow

Be Like Sun
Which fills our hearts with warmth
No Boundaries
No Distinction

Gives Light To Everyone

And
Not like a candle
Which illuminates
You Alone
YES
But can’t handle
Itself
And
Dies in the process

But
You have to live
In people’s heart
Forever
And
Give Give Give

Your Journey has just begun
To Their Heart
Please Remember
It’s Just
THE START
Not
THE END

AL BORE

As children
We read it in a book
About a schnook
Who sipped the tea
With a slurp
A rather noisy slurp
Will go to any length
Do any chore
To steal votes
To usurp
His Hispanic name
Al Bore

His main strength
And only friends
Were dimples and chads
In Espanol Merida
Migrated to Tallahassee port
Became a resident
Of Florida
Set up a Kangaroo Court
‘Democratic’ judge’s support
To anoint him
The president

Plastic smiles galore
Pretending what cannot be
Or
Glibbest illusory glee
Won’t help
Mr Al Bore
All chads All dimples
Will turn out to be
A mere pimple
On your nose

RULES & PRINCIPLES

Strange things these principles
Leave ye freedom of choice
Take these out of yer pocket
When ye want
Flaunt these as dockets
Change per wont
How ye want

On matter of principle
Every vote must count
Quite Right    Quite High
As it sounds
From my point of view
Purely whimsical
About votes ye reject
Or
Petition for those ye select
To be shunned and spurn
Ye do it with Relish
Are those votes
Pray
Of no concern
To the principles
Ye so cherish
Or
Principles ye so boast

But
Rules are Rules
No Whimpers No Screams
Ye don’t change horses
Or
Mules
Midstream

Can’t change Rules
Past The Schedule

Ye can’t have
This That And
The Other too
People are People
Not fools
Depends
How you pursue

But
Rules are Rules
Don’t blame the Supreme Court
You break those Rules
Rules shall break you
