Authorship of Dasam Granth

e-Symposium

Dedicated to Professor Gurmukh Singh (1849-98)

&

Giani Ditt Singh (1853-1901)

Notably prominent and dynamic leaders of Singh Sabha Movement, Professor Gurmukh Singh and Giani Ditt Singh were two distinguished scholars known for their courage, tenacity, steadfastness and critical thinking, and first among Sikh intellectuals to examine spurious Sikh literature in the light of Nanakian philosophy (Gurmat) enshrined in Aad Guru Granth Sahib. These Gursikhs showed the way to distinguish Gurmat from Bipran Kee Reet (Brahamnical ways) thus introducing skeptical inquiry into Sikh studies that helped lay the foundation of objective and critical scholarship.

During the last three months (October to December 2008), I invited scholars via Sikh internet discussion groups, Sikh publications, and direct e-mail to participate in the SikhSpectrum e-Symposium on the Authorship of Dasam Granth. An invitation was also sent to Professor Harpal Singh Pannu (Punjabi University, Patiala) and Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba (Editor, Sant Sipahi) who have, in the past, arranged and participated in seminars on Dasam Granth. Regrettably, I did not receive any response.

The website GlobalSikhStudies.net operated by Dr. Jasbir Singh Mann, M.D. of Los Angles, has several articles on Dasam Granth and its authorship (Dasam Granth: Authenticity Issues). With Dr. Mann’s permission I have selected six articles listed below (articles 3 to 8).
